Thomas Edward Cox Jr. departed this earth on January 13, 2024. Tommy was born on June 17, 1947 in Norfolk, VA. His memorial service and reception will be held on January 23rd, 10:00am at St. Giles Presbyterian Church, 5200 Grove St., Richmond, VA. There will be a graveside burial at 1PM for those who want to attend.

After Tommy’s release from prison, where he spent more than 30 years, he became a public speaker and a strong, caring defender of black youths. Tommy’s manuscript, “Legacy of Evil”, was written in 1987 while in Mecklenburg prison.

Tommy was a devoted member of St. Giles Presbyterian Church in Richmond VA where he was a member for almost 20 years. His journey was a testament to his enduring faith in Jesus Christ.

In 2009 Tommy started Saving Our Youth VA with Jo White. In 2010 he started the Richmond Guardian Angels, also with Jo White.

God sent Tommy to change this world by changing the lives of people heading down that same wrong path he took. He loved riding his bike, watching westerns and being with his St. Giles Presbyterian family.

Tommy was the first-born son of Thomas Edward Sr. & Pearl Cox who preceded him in death.  Tommy leaves behind his daughter Kim Stackhouse, Son-in-law Alphonzo Stackhouse, Grandsons Tyrhee Spivey, Kheyon Green, a Great Granddaughter Saniyah Martin, his Aunt Martha, and a host of cousins. He also leaves behind his Saving Our Youth and Guardian Angels families, and a host of friends.

Tommy will be loved and missed by everyone he knew.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Saving Our Youth VA for funds specifically towards Tommy’s Free Thinking program. We started teaching our first Free Thinking Workshop, called Futures Without Violence in May 2023. This class will be graduating in March so your donations will go towards the next class starting in May 2024.
